What is Bet On Sport?

"Bet on Sport – Combating sports-gambling addiction through sports" is a project funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus Sport 2024 program, which will be implemented between November 2024 - February 2027 in Romania, Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, Finland, Italy and Turkey. The project coordinator is the Romanian partner, the National Center for Mental Health and Drug Control.

In the context of the ever-growing problem of gambling addiction and the positive effects of sports in combating it, the Bet on Sport project aims to promote the participation of people with gambling addiction in sports activities as a tool to improve their mental and physical health, supporting their recovery process.

Project Scope

Bet on Sport aims to promote the participation of people with gambling addiction in sports activities as a tool for improving their mental and physical health in Romania, Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, Finland, Italy and Turkey.

Specifically, Bet on Sport aims:

To strengthen the skills of health and sports professionals in the collaborative design and implementation of sports programs as complementary/adjuvant therapy for gambling addiction;

To facilitate the cooperation of health and sports professionals in addressing gambling addiction in an integrative way;
💝
To raise awareness of health and sports professionals, authorities and other potential stakeholders on the importance of sport as a complementary/adjuvant therapy in the recovery journey of people with gambling addiction;
🤾‍♂️
To improve access for those suffering from gambling addiction to innovative physical activity and sports programs.

Project Objectives

🩺

Developing the skills of health and sports professionals regarding the collaborative use of sport/physical activity as adjuvant therapy for gambling addiction – at least 200 professionals will acquire new skills.

🤝

Developing cooperation between health and sports professionals for the integrative approach to gambling addiction through sport/physical activity – at least 50 professionals involved in collaborative activities.

📢

Raising awareness among stakeholders and authorities on the importance of sport/physical activity as complementary therapy in recovery from gambling addiction.

🏃‍♂️

Improving access to innovative sport/physical activity programs for people with gambling addiction – at least 100 participants in such programs.
