Frequently Asked Questions

The answer is relative and depends on each individual. Anyone can consult a psychologist at any time they wish to get through a crisis (grief, divorce, etc.) or to improve their quality of life. We can also ask for help from a specialist, a psychiatrist, when we have problems with sleep, diet, substance use (tobacco, alcohol, other drugs) and want to quit, or when we are emotionally overwhelmed or can no longer cope with daily activities.

Both the psychiatrist and the psychologist have the common goal of dealing with the emotional well-being of the patient. The main difference between the two specialists is the treatment method used. While the psychologist uses counseling and therapy techniques to solve emotional, cognitive, or behavioral problems, the psychiatrist has the necessary skills to prescribe a medical treatment that can alleviate the problem the patient is facing. This is why the two work together in situations that require collaboration.

It's important to know that there is a wide spectrum of mental disorders. Healing differs according to severity. For disorders like depression, anxiety, or substance use disorder, healing can be complete, although the possibility of recurrence exists. Drug treatment and psychological counseling can lead to healing. It is also important to consider that, as with other health problems, it is a healing process. The healing process in mental health problems is long-term and is closely linked to the patient's resources, the presence or absence of comorbidities, social and family support, the patient's capacity to understand and integrate changes, and their socio-economic and educational level.

Yes. According to legal regulations (GD no. 400/2014, GD no. 205/2015), psychological services are services related to the medical act. This means that to benefit from free psychological counseling sessions, a medical letter from a specialist doctor is required. Specialties connected with free psychological services: neurology and pediatric neurology, otorhinolaryngology (ENT), psychiatry and pediatric psychiatry, rheumatology, orthopedics and traumatology and pediatric orthopedics, oncology, diabetes, nutrition and metabolic diseases, hematology, nephrology and pediatric nephrology, pediatric oncology and hematology.
